The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is a movie plagued by false romance and bad story lines. It's easily the worst in the series and one that could have easily been told as part of the previous movie.

Summary

What the two Breaking Dawn movies did for the series is minimal. To watch a slowly developing story of love over two movies left a lot to be desired. What takes place over the final movie can be summarized in one word: nothing. While I was a fan of the previous two in the saga, this final film does nothing but move us backwards.

I left the theater feeling the same as I did after the original Twilight film. The most that happened in the original was the baseball game that takes place towards the end of the film. In the final movie, the most that happens isn't even real.

Everything that you expect to happen, everything that you want to happen, everything that you need to happen....doesn't happen. You're left with a uneventful bs love story. Perhaps that's what they should have called Twilight, "The BS Saga." Because that's what it is.

Characters

The development of the relationship between Edward and Bella comes back into question in the final movie, something we long thought was developed between movies 3 and 4. It's not that Bella is openly questioning her love for Edward it's just that she puts all of her faith in and is always next to Jacob. From a film standpoint this raises the questions as to who she loves the most. Was the relationship of Edward and Bella always about lust or was it really love? What the final movie in the saga does is raise questions, it doesn't answer them.

From sex scenes to holding each other to protecting one another it's obvious there is something between Edward and Bella, but it's when we step back from the intimacy that we begin to see how much she truly has something for Jacob. When she needs away from the hardships, it Jacob that's next to her. When trouble starts rolling in, it's Jacob by her side. And, to stay in theme, when Edward tells Bella she has to leave everything behind and say she's dead...it's Jacob that changes that to keep Bella around.

Now, this isn't even the biggest plot line of the movie. Breaking Dawn Part 2 is the story of the new Cullen, no not Bella, but Renesmee. Renesmee is the newborn baby who attempted to kill Bella in Breaking Dawn Part 1. The story of her growth and the confusion that she causes creates the entire story for Breaking Dawn Part 2. It's this story that has no development whatsoever.

Story

We start off with Bella waking up, realizing that her senses are overly strong. We take the first 30 or so minutes watching Bella learn to control her thirst (which is quite easy), running through the forest, and her ability to jump from ridiculous heights. She must do all this before she's allowed to see her daughter because they don't want her to hurt her.

Finally Bella is allowed to see Renesmee, which is where we begin to learn the story of Renesmee. She's got an unique ability in how she communicates, she grows relatively fast, and Bella learns that Jacob imprinted on her at the end of the last movie.

Once everything settles in between Bella and Jacob fighting about it we learn that Bella must be "dead" to the current town. To do this they must leave Forks. While everyone is understanding of what they must do, it's Jacob who realizes that Bella's father Charlie is already suffering and feels it's best that Bella stays in town. To prevent this, Jacob takes some measures into his own hands and it leads to Bella being allowed to stay in town.

Soon though everything "hunky dory" in Forks is about to get silly. As a member of a distant relative comes to town she sees Renesmee playing in the snow and catching snowflakes. She freaks out and thinks the Cullen's have turned a child into a vampire. She runs off to tell the Volturi that Carlisle Cullen committed a crime. This sends off a spree of problems that causes the Cullen's to scramble around the world to prevent the Volturi from killing the Cullen's and Renesmee.

This is essentially the height of the movie as from here on we see little to nothing different occur. Life is pretty much the same except for the gaining of "witnesses" to help the Cullen's. All of these witnesses coming to town causes new wolves to appear and Jacob is training them and helping them learn what's right and wrong, that is until two uninvited witnesses come to town.

These two are here to tell the Cullen's that the Volturi have not come to settle it peacefully and want to seek revenge for something that took place thousands of years before. Soon all of the Cullen's witnesses are on board with fighting to save Renesmee. Even the wolves have agreed to fight for Renesmee.

And so it is, it appears we'll have a fight. It's the first time I was excited, because if readers know anything about my view, it's that I believe all good series end with death. Yes, the ultimate final ending. No more stories to be told, no questions left unanswered, and no chance for another sequel. This would be the ultimate ending for Twilight as there are so many untold stories left, except it's not what you'll see. If you're anything like me you'll be left disappointed.

Summary

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is a movie solely for "twihards". There's no substance or reasoning for another movie in the series, but they felt it deserved another movie. What I don't understand is the reasoning Stephanie Meyer decided to make Breaking Dawn into two parts. I also don't understand why she allowed the director to place Jacob and Bella so close so often.

From a film standpoint Breaking Dawn Part 2 is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It easily raises questions on love, it leaves the new viewer desiring more, and the overall direction of the movie is poorly done. In terms of the Twilight Saga, it's easily the worst in the series. Nothing is developed, we learn nothing new, and they leave us with the potential for more. It does nothing to wrap up the series, and it's done nothing to tell us the final tale of the Cullen's and Swan's.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 is a confused love story with plot lines that serve no purpose and change no final outcome. Regardless of what happens in the end we already know the final results. The final results were shown at the end of Breaking Dawn Part 1. If anything, Breaking Dawn Part 2 should have been the opening to a new saga and series. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is easily the worst love story in the history love stories. It's not that Twilight is a bad story, it's that it's poorly written and has so much promise. It's a poorly made and leaves you wanting more. It's as if McDonald's served a BS Buffet as part of their Dollar Menu. You won't be satisfied no matter how much you've seen Breaking Dawn Part 2, you'll just leave the theater wondering why you just sat through an hour and a half watching absolutely nothing happen. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 gets a 2 out of 5 (Bad).
